Râșnov, 7–23 August: what happens in town during the festival

Between 7 and 23 August, Râșnov changes its rhythm. The Film and Histories Festival reaches its 18th edition, and from 13 August the programme moves largely into the town. If you are planning a stay in this period, it is worth knowing what is coming — and why it matters where you stay.

What happens, in brief

FFIR is not only a film festival. There are documentary and fiction screenings, debates with historians and journalists, concerts, theatre and exhibitions. The 2026 edition takes place in four localities — Râșnov, Brașov, Feldioara and Codlea — and the Râșnov part begins on 13 August and runs until the 23rd.

Where the events take place in Râșnov

The “Amza Pellea” cinema on Mihai Viteazu Street hosts most of the screenings and debates. Regina Maria / Unirii Square has open-air screenings, performances and, on the final weekend, a market with local producers. At La Lift, by the entrance to the inclined lift, the documentary competition runs. The Evangelical Church hosts chamber concerts, and several private gardens in town join the “Beyond the Fences” programme.

Concert evenings at the Fortress

The biggest events climb to Râșnov Fortress in the evening, from 20:00. Entry is by ticket, available on eventbook.ro and at the venue. These are the evenings when the town is at its fullest.

Why it matters where you stay

On concert evenings, parking in the centre and around the Fortress becomes difficult. From MAX International to the Fortress is 1.2 kilometres — a quarter of an hour on foot, without touching the car. And once the programme ends, you have nowhere to drive.

Rooms fill up early in August, and all the more so during the festival. If you already know you want to catch a particular evening, booking early is the only safe option.
